COGNITIVE ABILITY TRAINING

The Dubin Learning Center presents problem solving with verbal, non-verbal and Mathematical reasoning exercises. These areas are assessed in the commonly used GATE tests such as the COGAT, Ravens Progressive Matrices, and Otis -Lennon.

 The exercises are a part of our Ability Training Program that has always been a core component of our practice and is a traditional component of Educational Therapy. They have  not been  specifically developed for the GATE test but come from different Cognitive Training Programs.

Our program has been particularly beneficial for students who are very bright but not testing at their potential for a variety of reasons including test anxiety, impulsiveness, poor pacing, inexperience with testing, or ESL learners.  We have helped many marginal students who were a few points off, to get into the program and they have thrived and handled the program with ease. Our training, in effect, has been life altering. Our goal is not to place students in the GATE classes who do not belong there.

The actual test items are not used.

SAT, SSAT, ISEE, PSAT Preparation
Sessions are individual.  Problem solving strategies and time management are developed within the session.  The student practices on sample tests both during the session and at home and the results are discussed.
