- The Dubin Learning Center is one-of-a-kind. It was established in 1979 in Santa Barbara by the current directors, Barry and Deidre Dubin. We are not a franchise or part of a chain.
- Barry and Deidre Dubin are trained Educational Therapists with Masters Degrees in Special Education. They have the experience and training to work with students with Learning Differences, Learning Disabilities, Dyslexia, Aspergers, and ADHD.
- The Center designs its services to match the needs and strengths of each student , instead of expecting its clients to adapt to a standardized program.
- We are a warm and comfortable setting rather than a slick, impersonal institution. The Center is a Victorian house in the historical Brinkerhoff area.
- We have available a variety of multi-sensory methods including Lindamood-Bell techniques and Slingerland for students with Dyslexia, and Learning Differences. We are not defined by the method we use. No one method will serve all children. Our fee is significantly lower than the Lindamood-Bell Center and yet we offer a much broader range of techniques and services.
- We have a knowledge of child development and how children learn best. We know when to teach, and how to teach children ranging from students with a learning challenge to gifted students. Developmental readiness is particularly important in the early grades.
- Academics are seen as a reflection of processing skills. We determine why the student is making an error so we can teach through the strength and remediate the deficit.
- Deidre Dubin worked as a child psychologist before becoming an educational therapist. Her testing is able to provide practical recommendations for teaching. Barry Dubin was a master teacher at the Marianne Frostig Center for Educational Therapy in Los Angeles. Dr. Frostig was a pioneer in the field of Learning Disabilities. Both Barry and Deidre have been instructors at several Universities, including U.C.S.B., training teachers to work with students with Learning Differences.
